Embracing God’s Purpose: When God’s the Boss and You’re Just Along for the Ride

Writer: Becky de MuirBecky de Muir

Verse of the Day: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

Look, I don’t know about you, but sometimes I imagine God sitting up there with a celestial clipboard, sketching out my life like it’s some divine business plan—only I’m the entrepreneur who keeps spilling coffee on her notes. “Prosperity? Hope? A future? Sounds great, Boss, but can we talk about why my Wi-Fi’s down again?” He doesn’t give me a straight answer, or maybe he does in the form of Jeremiah 29:11 where he reminds me He’s got this—even when I don’t.

Here’s the deal: I’m a Mom, Wife & Entrepreneur with a knack for overanalyzing everything (yes, even the grocery list—why did I buy yet another can of coconut milk?). But when it comes to God’s purpose for me as an entrepreneur, I’m learning it’s less about me decoding the cosmic fine print and more about trusting the One who wrote it. You too? Okay, good. Let’s unpack this together.

The Calling That Keeps on Calling

Ever feel like God tapped you on the shoulder and whispered, “Hey, you—yeah, the one scrolling X instead of finishing that client email—I’ve got a job for you”? That’s the entrepreneurial calling, my friends. It’s not always glamorous—sometimes it’s just you, a laptop, and a prayer that the PayPal invoice clears—but it’s yours. God didn’t accidentally wire you with that hustle. He designed you for it, quirks and all.

I mean, think about it: Jeremiah 29:11 isn’t some fluffy motivational poster. It’s God saying, “I’ve got a plan, and it’s not to leave you floundering in the shallow end of life’s pool.” He’s promising hope, a future, and—dare I say it—prosperity that’s probably less about a yacht and more about the stuff that keeps your soul from clocking out at 3 p.m. But here’s the kicker: His plans don’t come with a GPS. You’ve got to trust the route, even when it feels like you’re stuck at a spiritual red light wondering if you missed the turn.

My Hot Mess Meets His Master Plan

Let’s get real—I’m not exactly poster-child material for “Has It All Together.” Last week, I burned dinner because I got distracted watching a documentary. Yet somehow, God’s still like, “Yep, I can work with that.” That’s the wild part: His purpose doesn’t require me to be perfect; it just requires me to be willing to do the work.

So, as an entrepreneur, I’ve started asking myself: What if my late-night brainstorming, my goofy client chats, my obsession with DOGE — what if that’s all part of the gig He’s got planned? Maybe my purpose isn’t just the big wins (though, Lord, I’m saying yes to those). Maybe it’s in the messy, relatable moments where I connect with people who get it—who see the humor in the hustle and the hope in the chaos.

Your Turn: Chat with the Big Guy

Here’s your action step, because I’m not just here to ramble (though I’m pretty good at it): Take 10 minutes today—yes, today, not “when I feel holy enough”—and pray. Ask God to tell you about His purpose for your business. No pressure, no fancy words needed. Just you, Him, and maybe a pen to jot down whatever pops into your head. A random idea about a new product? A nudge to call that client you’ve been dodging? A sudden craving for tequeños? (Okay, that last one might be me projecting.)

Write it down. Don’t overthink it. God’s not grading your penmanship—He’s just glad you’re listening.

The Punchline? Trust the Process

I’ll leave you with this: Embracing God’s purpose is less about cracking the code and more about enjoying the ride—even when the GPS (a.k.a. your five-year plan) is screaming “recalculating.” He’s got plans to prosper us, not to prank us. So, whether you’re slaying it in the boardroom or just trying not to burn dinner, know this: You’re right where He wants you, and that’s a pretty cool place to be.

Now, tell me—what’s one quirky thing you think God snuck into your purpose? Hit me up on X @beckydemuir and let’s swap stories. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that His plans are way more fun when we figure them out together.
