There are trips you plan…
And then there are trips heaven seems to line up for you like a divine setlist.
Our family adventure to Memphis, Tennessee to see Zakk Sabbath became one of those unforgettable, God-woven memories I know my kids will tell their own kids about someday.
And honestly? I still feel the guitar vibrations in my bones.
We packed up the car in North Florida—snacks, hoodies, sibling negotiations, the whole traveling circus—and hit the road toward a city filled with history, soul, and stories. We chose Memphis for a reason: it felt like connecting the past and the present in one weekend… visiting Graceland in honor of legends gone before, and meeting Zakk Wylde and the Zakk Sabbath family carrying the spirit forward.
The Meet & Greet That Turned Into a Core Memory
I have to say this upfront:
If you ever get the chance to buy a meet & greet ticket, do it.
Do it like you’re investing in memories, because that’s exactly what we did.
We got to meet Zakk Wylde, John DeServio, and Jeff Fabb—each one of them exceptionally kind, humble, and so present. No rushing. No cold celebrity energy. Just real humans treating fans with dignity and warmth.
My kids—ages 12 and 8—were given the kind of attention you don’t often see at events like this.
My youngest had a moment that I’ll treasure forever:
He gifted Zakk an Undertaker action figure, a little gesture wrapped in big admiration. And Zakk received it with the gentleness of someone who knows how to honor a child’s heart.
Both my children handed him letters they wrote.
He didn’t just accept them.
He saw them.
That’s something a mother never forgets.
We got shirts (obviously) and had our merch signed. Every interaction was met with smiles, care, and genuine connection. The entire team—from production to security—treated us like VIPs, we were safe, but even more importantly, they treated us with decency. Respect. Humanity.
I pray they all know what a beautiful job they’re doing.
The Show: A Sacred Earthquake
Before Zakk Sabbath took the stage, two incredible bands—Dark Chapel and Bonfire—opened the night with energy and talent that completely surprised us. They weren’t “openers.” They were revelations.
And then the main event—
Lights dim.
Crowd rises.
The kind of electricity that feels alive under your skin.
Zakk Sabbath delivered the full storm: riffs that felt like thunder, vocals that carried the weight of generations, and a stage presence that shakes you awake.
But there was something else… something holy.
Throughout the night, Zakk approached a small altar he sets on stage—a quiet corner of reverence. At one point, he dropped to his knees to thank the Lord right there in front of everybody. Not for a show. Not as a performance.
But as a man who knows Who guides his hands.
As a Christian mom raising two kids in a noisy world, watching that felt like a breath I didn’t know I was waiting to exhale.
God is everywhere.
Even in the distortion.
Even in the encore.
Why This Trip Meant Everything
Going to Memphis wasn’t just about music.
It was about connection.
Family.
Faith.
Fun.
History.
Art.
And the power of doing something just because it brings joy.
My kids will remember:
The long drive where we turned the car into a moving karaoke booth
The awe of Graceland
The kindness of musicians who treated them with respect
The thunder of guitars
The moment Zakk kneeled to pray
The feeling of being seen, valued, included
The family adventure that asked nothing of them but to enjoy
This trip is now stitched into our family story.
Amazing people. Amazing fans. And the best memories I could have prayed for.
If you’re ever on the fence about taking your kids to something unconventional or outside the “mom stereotype,” here’s your sign:
Take the trip.
Chase the music.
Make the memory.
Let joy be loud.
God isn’t afraid of amplifiers.
